I have to laugh at how different this piece looks than the original. I was experimenting with watercolor pencils on this one. I should have really taken that watercolor class this weekend with Joanie so that I knew what to do with them. It looks kinda funky and old because I used a filter in Gimp called Dots (I think) that made it dotty and old looking. I started out as these crazy bright colorful shapes but they were just too bright so I stamped little patterns all over it, drew some white pastels over it to mute it down. That looked kinda bad so I tried to fix it by wetting it all with dirty water. What resulted was a muted and muddy looking colorful thing you see here.
Kinda strange, but that is what happened. I should really make notes of the fonts. I will try and add them in future postings. If you want to read the entire chapter, you can find it here: Tao Te Ching Chapter 6 (Full Essay)

Amy, I think you are too hard on yourself. I love the look of this background for the quote. I never would have guessed that you were experimenting.

Funny. I brought up this page on my work computer with my huge monitor and I was like “Whoa. That looks kinda cool!” It looks better than I thought. Thanks for the sweet comment, Suzanne!
