66 – The Great Sea

Ocean Waves

How does the Great Sea become leader of the valley?

The Great Sea is the leader of the rivers and valleys
because she is able to take the lower position.

Therefore one that desires to be above others,
surely ends up on the bottom.

If one wishes to be ahead of others,
she must surely be walking behind.

The true sage is given her place above
but does not weigh heavily on her people.

She stands before them as a leader,
and causes them no harm.

The world below is happy to uphold such leadership
without end.

She does not compete and therefore
the world has nothing against her.

  1. So clear and sweet. Thank you.

  2. The sea is so vast, powerful. Among the sea are hidden dangers and beauty beyond words. The sea has salt for our bodies yet water we can not drink. The sea has food to eat and nutrition for the soul. The sea in all its vastness and its crashing waves on a stormy night, reminds us that we can not control the tide of life, but merely have acceptance for our place in the world. The sea has such wisdom to teach us when we are prepared to observe and learn.

  3. Beautiful! I liked the whole thing but my favorite part is “she does not compete and therefore the world has nothing against her.”
